A cat makes a perfect choice for children because they tend to take care of themselves. As long as they are given sufficient food and water they will remain happy. Indoor cats will have to be trained to use a litter box but most of them learn very quickly so you wont have to deal with cleaning up such messes around your home. There are many pleasures in life, but few are as great as owning and caring for one or many pets. I have been a pet lover ever since I was a kid, and I have never owned less than three dogs at a time for as longas I can remember. My parents were dog lovers as well, and they raised us right. I remember being fascinated with methods for training our dogs from the time I was young. I loved learning about new ways to get your new puppies to stay in control. Crate training was one method that I constantly saw my parents using.

Treating Different Problems Related To Your Pets
Pets are one of the most unselfish beings in anyones household. So treating them when any problem arises is one of the most important things to do by any pet owner.
- When your Pet gets Stung
If your pet is stung remove the stinger with tweezers, this increases his/her chances of survival with the removal of the venomous stinger.
The stung area can get some relief with the use baking soda and water solution.
To reduce the swelling apply ice pack covered with a thin towel over the affected area. Do it within every five minutes.
- For Skin Irritation
If your pet has suffered insect bites, hot spots or other skin problems you can dab some milk of magnesia to soothe and calm the irritated skin.
Apply aloe vera gel over the affected area. If you have aloe vera plant you can cut the leaf and use it as a soothing gel.
Apply organic apple cider vinegar over the irritated skin.
For hot spots you can use witch hazel for a continuous period of time.
For itchy skin and paws you can bathe your pet in Epsom salt solution. In 2 cups of warm water mix 1 teaspoon Epsom salt.
You can make a home-made spray to treat any skin problems. Use 3 capsules of sage, 1/4 teaspoon of Epsom salt and 2 cups of water. Boil this solution and let it cool. After straining, store this solution in spray bottle and keep it in the refrigerator.
- Other Problems
Emu oil is can be used for many problems such as ringworms, flea bites, bee stings, rashes, hot spots and laceration.
If your pet has been poisoned notify the vet immediately.
If the pet has swallowed any toxic substance except for caustic substances, getting him to vomit, this would reduce the danger.
If the pet has ingested alkaline substance such as cleanser or kerosene, vomiting would not be a good solution. Instead give 3 teaspoon vinegar or lemon juice diluted in equal amounts of water.
If a battery has been ingested which is acidic, 1 tsp milk of magnesia, per 5 Lbs. of pet.
If your pup has diarrhea and adult dog suffers with soft stool problem you can add canned pumpkin in their diet.
A very common problem in pets is loss of vision caused mainly due to cataract. A very useful flower called cineraria has been known to reduce the size of cataract as well as minimize its existence. With the help of tincture, dilute 1/2 saline (to be purchased) and 1/2 cineraria to make eye drops. A daily dosage of 2 drops for 3 months can help to solve this problem.
If your pet has lost his or her sense of smell, a nutritious meal can just be the right motivator. Feed your pet a rich and nutritious diet which improves the keen sense of smell. Warm canned food without salt, but with a dash of garlic powder is a good way to improve that smell.

However, it is a waste of money to attend the Vets surgery when the problem is one you can solve at home. This is a short guide to dealing with minor ailments as a form of Pets First Aid. If the symptoms persist you can still contact the vet. Dog health need not always be a costly worry to the wise pet owner.
Some dog breeds do not like being handled: pitbull dogs and bull terriers for example. This should be key element of dog obedience training so that the dog accepts that you are entitled to treat him for his own good. After a country walk it is a good idea to give your dog a quick grooming or rub down, and check for any lumps or bumps that he may have picked up along the way. My own dog, a Collie German Shepherd cross, gets twigs and sticks caught in round his rear and his bushy tail. Left unchecked, these can cause the fur to mat around them. The dog will worry at it and probably lick the area bare, leaving it open to infection. You can avoid this with a few minutes attention.
Ticks are nasty. They have a one-piece body and the harpoon-like mouth barbs attach to a host (your dog) for feeding. Crablike legs and a sticky secretion help the tick to hold on. Long-haired dogs like Schnauzers often suffer badly from ticks. When attempting to remove a tick, the aim is to prevent the mouth section from coming off and remaining embedded in the skin. The home remedy is simple and cheap petroleum jelly, which is what you would get if you went to a pet shop and paid for a proprietary tick remover! The most effective way to remove the tick is to put a big lump of petroleum jelly over the area where it has attached itself. Leave this for at least ten minutes. Once the ticks grip loosens, you can wipe it out of the way with a tissue.
Ear mites - if your pet has ear mites, then place two drops of corn oil into its ears (an eye dropper will do the trick), massage the ear gently then clean with a cotton ball. This will suffocate the mites. Repeat for 3 days. Regular ear bathing with oil is recommended by vets, to avoid a buildup of wax and irritants.
Constipation - try this quick fix for a constipated pet. For a large dog, add 3 to 4 tablespoons of mineral oil to its food. For a small dog reduce the dose to 1 to 2 teaspoons. Do this for two days and the problem should clear up.
Diarrhoea mix one heaped teaspoon of carob powder with a little water and mix into your dogs dinner. Use half a teaspoon if you have a puppy.
Urinary tract infections mix 30-40ml of cranberry juice into your pets food. This will boost the acidity of its urine, reduce bacteria and help relieve the discomfort.
And if youre not sure whats wrong say your pet seems off colour then heres a tip we use all the time. Add half a dissolved aspirin or childrens liquid analgesic to your pets food. It can perk up a German Shepherd in minutes!

Creative Scrapbooking Albums For Your Pets
Scrapbooking is a wonderful way to preserve your cherished memories. For many people their pets are an important part of the family, so it is just natural to want to capture those special times shared with a beloved pet. You can use your favorite scrapbooking tools to make unique pages that you can enjoy for years to come.
As always, make sure the scrapbooking materials you use are acid and lignin free. You'll need the typical scrapbooking supplies such as an album, cut-outs, stickers, letter rub-ons, and any other creative embellishments you desire. Choose things related to your pet such as dog breed stickers or cat themed papers. Creating scrapbook pages for your pets is also a great way to get the kids involved.
To get started, you'll need to have some good photos of your pet. Try taking pictures from a variety of different angles and include your pet with different members of the family. If your dog has a favorite toy, include some special pictures of that as well. Do you celebrate your pet's birthday? Then by all means include some "birthday" photos in the scrapbook.
